What Is An Audit
red_pen   An audit is simply a structured method of reviewing the control systems in your operation. One of management's major responsibilities is to develop and implement controls and operations that will help ensure the achievement of approved goals and objectives.  An Audit assists management in carrying out this responsibility by performing independent evaluations of the effectiveness of these control systems and bringing to their attention situations in which controls could be improved.  A constructive working relationship between the Auditor's Office and County Department's and Office's is essential if the County is to achieve maximum benefit from audit activities.  This relationship is based upon the recognition that both the Auditor's Office and County Heads, and indeed all employees, share a common goal-the overall success of the County.

The following is a list of different types of audits.

1.) Financial Statement Audits - The auditor provides users with an independent basis for relying upon management's statements.  Auditors collect evidence needed to verify these statements by using inspection, observation, inquiry, and confirmation of third parties.

2.) Compliance Audits - Compliance audits are performed to obtain reasonable assurance that governments have complied with state and local laws and regulations.

3.) Performance Audits - Process of obtaining and evaluating evidence regarding the performance of an organization, program, function or activity.  Evaluation is made in terms of economy and efficiency of operations, effectiveness in achieving desired
results and compliance with relevant policies, laws and regulations.
